Have you ever considered opening your home to a RoughRiders player? Our housing program is essential to the success of our team, and we are deeply grateful for the incredible families who help make it all possible. By providing a welcoming and supportive environment, billet families play a vital role in each player’s development—both on and off the ice.
RoughRiders players, ages 16 to 20, travel from across the country (and beyond) to pursue their hockey dreams in Cedar Rapids. During the season, these young athletes rely on host families to serve as their home away from home. Hosting a player is a unique and rewarding experience that often leads to lasting relationships—many families stay in touch with their players long after they’ve moved on to college or professional hockey careers.
Our hockey operations staff works thoughtfully to pair each player with a home that best suits their personality and background. All prospective billet families are carefully screened and guided through our expectations to ensure the best possible experience for both player and host.
Players are held to high standards and are expected to treat their billet families with the utmost respect. This includes following team and household rules, contributing positively to the home environment, and showing appreciation for the support they receive.
