RoughRiders Extend Point Streak to 15 Games with Dupaco Cowbell Cup Win Over Des Moines, Rematch Friday at The Stable


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Wednesday night, defeating the Des Moines Buccaneers 6 to 1 in a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup at The Stable. With the win, the RoughRiders extended their point streak to 15 games and their winning streak to seven straight games.

Ruben Westerling opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season, becoming the 10th different RoughRiders player to reach double digit goals this year. Jason Musa scored his 21st goal of the season, and Connor Davis added his 23rd to give the Riders a 3 to 0 lead with 12:17 remaining in the second period.

Des Moines cut the lead to 3 to 1, but the RoughRiders maintained control throughout the night. David Bosco added his 18th goal late in the second period, and Jason Musa scored his second goal of the night in the third period, his 22nd of the season and 75th career USHL point, becoming the third RoughRiders player to reach the 50 point mark this season. Braiden Scuderi capped off the night with his 12th goal of the season.

The RoughRiders were clicking on the power play, going 4 for 9.

Four RoughRiders recorded multiple points, led by Jason Musa and Connor Davis with three points each, while Nathan Chorlton and Henry Lechner each added two assists. Musa has now scored two goals in back to back games.

Goaltender Ryan Cameron made 18 saves to earn his 23rd win of the season as the RoughRiders outshot Des Moines 34 to 19.

With the win, the RoughRiders improve to 16 -7 -5 at the Stable and 33 -16 -9 overall, good for 75 points and sole possession of third place in the Eastern Conference with four regular season games remaining and just one point behind the Dubuque Saints.

The RoughRiders will return to The Stable on Friday, March 27th, for a rematch with the Des Moines Buccaneers in another Dupaco Cowbell Cup game on Jersey Mike's Jersey Night as the Riders continue their March Madness push.
